With my possible upcoming project, I wanted to address student apathy. What are the possible factors that cause this? One of the main reasons I believe that students, especially in this generation are apathetic is because the surge in technology advances. With the emergence of new technology and online gaming, kids in this generation literally have everything at their fingertips. And because of that, we receive instant gratification from such things. One of the huge things about technology is that because of it, it's possibly lowered our attention span. While it might not be a direct correlation it can ceratinly be a huge factor in why student's aren't able to pay attention in class for long periods of time. Back before technology was a major part in daily life, people were required to think for themselves, use their creative mind, and look around not down. Now we have our iPhones, our iPads, our Androids, and our tablets. Does technology breed apathy in our students? Students are no longer required to think for themsevles, because with a quick Google search, you already have an answer. That's not to say that technology isn't bad. Technology has provided advances in many fields and allow students to do things neveer done before. The one thing I really want to find out is, our students slacking in school because they think technology in the end will be their saving grace? And is technology not just making today's generation apathetic but older generations as well?
To see how much technology is affecting our generation, I will have students take an apathy evaluation test and an attention span test.
